David Beatty Commits to Gamecocks

Frank Martin’s South Carolina program received some great news today when Imhotep (PA) senior guard, David Beatty, committed to the Gamecocks today at a school press conference.

The 6’3 combo guard, who transferred to Imhotep from St. Benedict’s (NJ) this season, chose the Gamecocks over Indiana, Maryland and Georgetown, detailing his relationship with Martin and the players on the team. “The biggest factor in my decision was how close I got with the coach {Martin} and the players,” said Beatty. Seeing how they will fit me in their system and how comfortable I felt on campus all that led to my decision.

Back in August, South Carolina was not apart of Beatty’s final five schools that consisted of Georgetown, Georgetown, UConn, Maryland, Indiana, and La Salle. But the athletic guard decided to reopen his recruitment back in early October in which a list of schools including South Carolina reached out and offered him.

After his official visit to the Columbia campus, Beatty explained how he kept in contact with some of the players because of how comfortable they made him feel. “Once my visit was over, I exchange numbers with most of the players and they have been keeping in touch with me ever since, which was a good look.”

In a conference where programs such as Kentucky, Florida and Alabama are attracting some of the nations top prospects, Beatty is looking to prove himself to show that he has what it takes to put South Carolina on the map. “I live for that moment and they are just another school to me. I am just here to show what Dave Beatty can do and how much a great coach, {coach} Martin is.”

One person Beatty wants to give his biggest thanks to is his mother, as he describe as a “strong woman.” “My mom is my everything. She has been there throughout it all waking me at 5am, making sure I am doing well in school, always telling me to do better and encouraging me. She doesn’t know too much about basketball, but she knows what it means to work hard and take care of your family, which is big to me.”

Over the summer, Beatty was a key member for Team Philly Pride in the Under Armour Circuit. The ultra-attacking guard averaged 13.4ppg, 3.3rpg and 3.2 apg in the circuit.

Beatty is the Gamecocks fourth commit joining big men Felipe Haase and Jason Cudd along with swingman Ibrahim Doumbia.
