Brewster Academy’s (MA) Aaron Wheeler is off the board after the 6’8 wing announced his commitment to Purdue today via twitter.
“Very excited to announce my commitment to Purdue University to continue my athletic and academic career #BoilerUP”
Wheeler chose the Boilermakers over Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Creighton and Arkansas after an official visit this past weekend. When asked why he chose the school, Wheeler told Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, “me and my family thought it would be the best fit for me both academically and athletically.”
The Connecticut native also explained how he believes Purdue is one of the top teams in the NCAA and how their academics played a part as well. “And also they’re a Top 10 team and I would have a chance to play right away so that’s big. It’s also a real good academic school so that’s something my parents want for me just in case something bad happens and I’m not able to play basketball anymore. It’s important to get a good degree for after college.”
The versatile forward who has a developing perimeter jumper, joins 7’2 Netherlands big man Matt Harms as Purdue’s only two commitments of the class of 2017.
